We used to be anti-tipping. We made fun of the Europeans for the practice. Then, doing the thing we are sometimes wont to do (being hypocrites), we brought it here as pretty much the rest of the world moved on.
A lot has happened since then (it was the late 19th century). But this is no longer even a hot take – we messed this one up. Tipping is dumb. Not including other fees in the price of things is dumb. Outsourcing the potential onus of a living wage to a customer just trying to get something to eat is dumb. No tips please!
